You need a passport that is valid for at least 6 months past your travel dates.

As a Swiss citizen, you can travel to the U.S. without a visa under the Visa Waiver Program for a maximum of 90 days. You have to apply for an “ESTA” authorization (Electronic System for Travel Authorization). It is best to do this a few weeks in advance, although the approvals usually go through pretty quickly. It costs $21.
